Elevator (Repair)

After an inspection by Mr Ashok, (EAA member) we found two places that are dented due to over gripped of the grip pin. The location is on the Top Right Elevator.

Two location are shown as marked with black arrow in the picture.

A piece of flat wood is placed between the skin and the Elevator Rear Rib (75T3-3). The skin around the hole is heated by a heater. Medium heat is used and let it heat the skin for 20 seconds.

Using a round shape wood, the dent is slowly pushed repeatedly to smoothen the dent. A light force is used for this operation.

After a few works on the dents, the deep of the dent is lighten. It can’t be shown clearly in the picture, but need to be observed to the real part.

Then, we started to work on the second dented hole. We heated it with the same heat blower, medium heat for 20 seconds.

Then, from the bottom of the skin, lightly, we pushed the dent until it is smoother than before with a round shape wood.

After a few works on the dents, the deep of the dent s is lighten as shown in the picture.

Both dents on the holes are shown in the picture after the repair operation.

We then distached the Elevator Trim Tab (75T4-4) from the elevator. On this trim tab, we need to trim the edge of the elevator so that it is does not interfere with the edge of the Elevator Trim Tab Cutout.

The inboard edge is marked with red marker as shown in the picture.

With a cutter, we trimmed the marked edge. Then, we placed a L-angle under the skin, and file the trimmed edge. The L-angle is used to cover the Trim Tab from scratches.

As shown in the picture, we have rounded the edge.

Then, the cutboard edge is marked with red marker pen. A cutter is used to trim along the line.

A file is used to round the cutted edge. A L-angle is also used and placed bottom of the skin so that no accidentally scratch to the Trim Tab.
